Long time friend and Master Picker, Tony Rice, upped the stakes for the average bluegrass musician and gave the world a run for its money when it came to enjoying the old standards and new stylings of both crossover covers and original compositions. His contribution to the Bluegrass Alliance cant be topped.
With Tony's help the young upstarts in the Alliance got their footing and were able to really show their individualism and their creative ideas.
Despite the many line up changes and various pairings of complementary arrangements, Whisper My Name is an original composition by Ebo Walker and continues to be one of Sam Bush's favorites on his setlist to this day. RIP Courtney Johnson.

Tony to the left and Courtney to the right made for one amazing show even in the early days and no doubt this was surely an inspiration for Sam step up and keep the world of Bluegrass on their toes as he ventured far and wide in both Bluegrass, New Grass, and even Duck Butter... whatever that is! We love them all and are certain you will enjoy all these early tapes and finds as we find them and share all the history of Bluegrass Alliance.
The influence and friendship of Courtney Johnson with members of the band led everyone to step up and bring their best and give their all. Clearly his musical invention and sheer ability to astound is seldom paralleled even in todays Bluegrass Greats! Post your renditions and live recordings here!
